WHAT IS IT?

I bought a bag of knitting needles and crochet hooks the other day and this item was in the bag.
What is it? is it to do with knitting? I have no idea.
Its about 8" long. Made of metal and doesn't open up.

I'm sure someone out there must know what it is.

  4. I would think that it's a bodkin used to thread cording or elastic in clothing.
