INTERESTING FACT ABOUT PIGEONS

I have just found a out a really interesting fact about pigeons that I thought I would share.
They are one of the few birds that are able to feed their offspring with milk produced in their crop.
Both male and female are able to do this.
This means that they are not reliant on berries or insects at any particular time of year and can mate pretty much any time.

You can read more about this here.

  8. That is interesting. We have birds around our house that look like that but they are doves. I'll have to look them up and see if they also feed their young milk.

  10. OK, I did some research. Doves do feed their young crop milk. From what I can find, doves and pigeons are basically the same kind of bird but the smaller wild ones are called doves and the larger city dwelling ones re called pigeons. Also doves are associated with peace and purity and pigeons are not so well thought of because of what they leave all over sidewalks and buildings.
