AFTERNOON TEA

Last week, Penny our daughter rang to say that as we had had so much in the last 6 months with Tom being ill etc that she was going to take us for afternoon tea at Amberly Castle on Easter Sunday.
Neither of us are afternoon tea people, preferring a big mac, lol but having never experienced 'Afternoon Tea' before we were looking forward to it.

Driving up the long drive it looked a bit imposing but the grounds were just beautiful.

So posh that umbrellas were provided in the car park. Never seen that before.
And croquet is often played on the lawns here, never played that either.

Here's the tea room and the selection of cakes etc, and the empty plates afterwards, lol
It was lovely but we all agreed, even Penny who paid for it, that it was a very over priced.
They must be making so much profit.

And here we are with the lovely lady who gave us the treat.
As you can see, Tom is feeling so much better and is beginning to gain some weight and get his colour back.

THANK YOU PENNY FOR A LOVELY AFTERNOON.

  1. What a fun outing! You can't think about the price relative to just the food -- it's the full experience, the maintenance of that castle, that you're paying for. It sounds like seeing the structure and those gardens was pretty amazing! (Having said that, I'm ordinarily not a huge fan of afternoon tea either -- too much sugar and liquid for me!)

  7. Sign me up for afternoon posh tea in that castle. It would be expensive but a memory would be created. Your daughter is a sweetheart to treat you.

  9. What a lovely thought from your daughter. I'm with you, Briony, I'd prefer a burger too! However, we do like the occasional afternoon tea as a treat...my only gripe is that they offer too many cakes and not enough savoury things. On occasion we've asked for some of the cakes to be boxed up to take home with us, we don't really need to eat 3 or 4 different cakes plus a scone with jam and cream in one go. Lovely photo.

  12. What a lovely treat from your dear daughter, Penny. You and Tom look wonderful! Zip thought Tom looked especially good for all he's gone through.
Since we have very few castles here in the US and an abundance of Micky D's, I'd take the afternoon tea any time. Glad you had a lovely day out!

  20. What a lovely idea from Penny. I guess she was paying for the environment as well as the afternoon tea. I hope you showed good manners and cocked your little finger as you were drinking from your china teacup. "The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain... by George she's got it!"

  23. How nice. I just finished watching all 6 seasons of Downton Abbey. I imagine that is what I would have thought about this place had I been there.
    Great picture of your family.
