SISTINE CHAPEL PAINTING in GORING SUSSEX

Yesterday we took ourselves off to Goring  along the coast in West Sussex.
We take the monthly magazine 'Sussex Life' that brings your attention to many of the interesting places to visit in Sussex.
We had heard of this church with a painted ceiling and found out the times that it was open in order to visit.
The ceiling was painted in an exact replica of the 'Sistine Chapel' the original being painted by Michelangelo.  I think the lady said that it was one third the size of the original and took 5 years to complete.

This is just a small area taken with my iphone, the whole thing is amazing.
This site has more pictures and info if you want to take a look.

The stained glass windows were breathtaking with the sun shining throught them.

When painting the last supper the artist incorporated his little dog, can you find it?
We were so pleased that we got there just in time to sit in on the lady giving all the info, so interesting.
Recommended if you are ever this way.

  1. What a work of adoration to paint the Sistine Chapel in a smaller version. I saw the original and of course loved it. I see the little dog, a little girl, a lady and perhaps the artist (?) in the painting of the Last Supper. You are right, the stained glass is glorious.

  7. I love the stained glass window with the sun shining through. to me it is much prettier than the paintings. that is quite the undertaking to paint that replica and have not heard of it before. it is amazing to think of all that work

  11. Hi, I am really enjoying your blog having read through it all. I am fascinated that you have had 2 stairlifts fitted so that you can stay in your home. Have you lived there all your married life and did you bring your children up there? Also the fact you have never had a washing machine wow!!. Your art work is wonderful I wish I could bottle your positivity.
