COMMENT MODERATION

I am hoping that I have activated the comment moderation.
I have been getting a few unwanted comments lately so will see how it turns out.
I would rather not do this but I find it disturbing when people leave nasty comments, this is not what I want to have in my day.

New Mandala proving a bit tricky but getting there.

Not sure if the comment moderation is working, any tips would be welcome.

  1. This seems to be happening more and more, not only in blogland. It is a shame that people feel the need to be like that. Please don't take their nastiness to heart, your blog is an enjoyable read and I love to see the crafts that you do.

  2. However much we know we should ignore them and they don't matter, it's hard to put nasty comments out of your mind isn't it? But I always think nasty comments say more about the perpetrator than about us, what sad friendless joyless people they must be. Sending you a hug, Briony xx

  3. I'm sorry you had to do this, I get a few of these comments as well. I have gotten some really awful ones.

  4. Why in the world are you getting nasty comments? I get blog comments by email so they aren't posted unless approved by me. Don't get much spam anymore but it helps to weed out the weirdos when they do come along. :) Nice start on your mandala.

  5. I fully understand about the horrible comments. I used to have a blog many years ago and I actually stopped because of the comments. Like yourself I simply could not have that in my life. In my case I think I actually knew who was doing it, a very disturbed person from my past. Still, it didn't matter, I did not want that in my life.
I want you to know that I love your blog, I got here because of Steve's Shadow and Light. I enjoy your crafts and stories. Keep it up and thanks for sharing with us.

  6. Even with comment moderation you will get those comments, the difference is that you can delete them before they are published on your actual blog. You will choose which comments to publish and which to delete. But you'll still have to see the darn things :)

  7. And it looks like comment moderation is not yet working because my comment showed up as soon as I hit the Publish button below the comment box . . . I'll have a look at my blogger dashboard and see if I can find how moderation is put in place. I'll be back :)

  8. Okay, I'm assuming you know how to get to your Blogger Dashboard. If you don't, ask and I'll explain that in a different comment.

The Dashboard shows the name of your blog in the upper left corner. Below that is "View blog" in blue letters, below that there is a list: Posts, Stats, Comments, Pages, Layout, Theme, Settings, etc.

Click on Settings to show the choices, and then click on Posts, Comments & Sharing. When you do that, you'll see on the right (main) part of the screen: Posts, and below that, Comments.

Comment Moderation is the third item under Comments. Choose Always. If you want to have comments come to your email address, fill in the "Email moderation requests to" box below that. (Note: below that is the option to choose verification, but I have not found that function works on any blog I've been to. But I might be missing something; you can always try it.)

    Hope this helps.

  9. I should have added in the last paragraph, if you don't want comments to come to your email address, you can still see them before you publish them; they can be found on the Dashboard screen -- click on Comments to see the menu, choose Awaiting Moderation.

  10. I don't know why anyone would leave nasty comments here. I also moderate my comments, so that spam, etc. does not just pop up for everyone to read. It's much nicer this way, then you can decide what shows up on your blog.

I have started Sophie's Garden mandala and am on one row that is supposed to have 192 sts and I have 196. For Pete's sake. I counted twice, now I'll have to pull it all out and start over. Otherwise it's been pretty challenging but I am enjoying it. Thanks for inspiring me to try this.

Have a wonderful weekend ~ FlowerLady

  11. Am I "unwanted" here? I can be nasty - especially when I see Boris Johnson on our TV screen. However, I have tried to be nice when mooching around Crafty Cats Corner and have sometimes left kitty treats for Rupert.

  14. Hopefully once 'they' get bored they'll move along. Not good for you to have to deal with all of this when you have so many other things happening in your life right now.
    Take care

  15. Since reading a blog is strictly a chosen act, why in the world would anyone feel the need to be nasty? Comments can be critical I imagine, but nasty - no.

  16. The spam comments can be very annoying and I've noticed that more seem to be getting through lately. I don't blame you for wanting to activate the comment moderation.
The mandala is looking quite lovely.

  18. Sorry to hear about those skanky people-I've been bullied by my neighbour, who the police said" she does is for a reaction"- I politely have asked her to stop in the past and she gets angry and crazier and so I now just let her show herself up and avoid- Clearly troubled unhappy with their "lot" people and I think perhaps jealous of you x

    1. Those kind of people just want to argue, I've learnt from experience that if you don't respond at all they don't know quite what to do.

  20. I do not why anyone would leave a nasty comment here...I know I haven't been visiting that long but this is such a pleasant place to visit.

That being said, I have sure been getting quite a bit of spam, some of it makes no sense. But usually it is on older posts and I have my one blog set to hold comments on older posts...and had it that way on the other but got a nasty comment about something the anonymous person knew nothing about. So now I have to moderate it all.

I am not going to say the two types I get most often, afraid somehow that type will show up here. Just ridiculous that they spend their time doing the spam. What gets me, do they actually think someone that reads our blogs will like what they are advertising? Can they not see that we are not that type of people?

    1. Yeah, I don't think your moderation is turned on. My comment went straight through, too.

If you go to your Blogger dashboard, click on "settings" on the left, and then on "posts, comments and sharing," you should get some options in the center of the screen. There, under the subheading "comments," you'll see "comment moderation" (third item down). Just click "always" and then be sure to save settings (button upper right).

      Hope this helps!

  28. I'm sorry to hear that you're receiving nasty comments. I have comment moderation on my blog, mainly to stop spam being published, but it does allow you to filter out anything unsavoury. The mandala is looking good.
