CAR BOOT SALES

Over the years Tom and I must have gone to hundreds of car boot sales and I can point to so many things in our home that have been bought there.
One of the things that I bought many years ago was a cupboard that cost me only £5.00.

Here it is in all its glory and I love it as much today as when I saw it laying on the ground waiting for a buyer.
It is completely hand made from various woods and written on the back  are the woods used in the making.
The sides are Chestnut.
The doors are Elm.
The back is walnut and the shelves are Beech.

Even the hinges are hand made and very basic but functional.
What made me blog about this cupboard?

This caught my eye this morning. lol
A spider has decided to make his web across the hole in the door and me hating housework anyway will not be removing it any time soon.
Stay safe little spider.

  2. Once more you have proven what a friend of Nature you are :) I'm glad the spider has found a safe place, and that finding its web led you to write about your cupboard. What a lovely piece of workmanship!

  3. I adore your cabinet. Being a cleaner I do enjoy cleaning my own place aswell, but I draw the line at removing all the cobwebs...they're the spider's dinnerplate and are catching the flies for me! Am happy to share with the other critters Arilx

  4. Its a lovely purchase and I love browsing the sales. I think the local car boots that started last week will have had to contend with this wind which is awful. I certainly wouldn't go at the moment.

  5. I have never seen anything like this, one of the best bargains I have ever seen! It is wonderful, and looks quite timeless. I cannot sleep if a spider sets up housekeeping in the house!

  7. What a unique piece. Obviously that spider was quite impressed with it as well to build it's home there.

  8. All that I can say is that little spider certainly knows prime real estate when he sees it. I think your shelf is magnificent and so unique, quite a work of art.
    Thanks for sharing,

  9. What a great cabinet, its gorgeous.
I mentioned a boot fairs to my friend the other day and she said if they had one now it would look like a convention of doctor, dentists and nurses with all the masks!

  11. oh ow - double wow in fact because now I realize why elm wood was so treasured before wiped out by Dutch Elm disease.

  13. That is a beautiful cupboard. I'm with you on housework - I do it because I have to, but I don;t enjoy it and usually have to bribe myself with a treat once I have finished. Of course, being a hoarder of craft stuff myself and being married to a hoarder doesn't make it any easier!
    Best wishes

  15. Nobody else in the world has a cupboard just like that one. A marvellous find and of course a tremendous bargain too. The spider will need a name. I suggest Keith.

  16. What a delightful cupboard! I can understand why it had to live with you and Tom. Did the craftsman sign it? Whoever he (she?) was, loves the beauty of wood and knows how to showcase it in the best possible way. And the hinges are just perfect. WOW! That's such an exciting piece and having a spider living in the hole adds to the fun. He's naturally what should be there.

  17. This is truly amazing! I've never seen anything like it! And it has all those different wood and everything handmade makes it even more awesome. My little spiders have their webs all over my house and it's a good excuse for not doing housework because we don't want to tear down there all their hard work
