MEMORY JUGS.

I have recently been watching a couple of Grayson Perry's Art Club series on All4.
when he mentioned Memory Jugs and my ears pricked up as I didn't know what they were.
I googled it and found a wonderland of jugs and other utensils that had been covered in all sorts of bits and pieces.

I am so excited by this (it doesn't take much, lol) because I have several drawers full of stuff that I could use here, collected for my patchwork but likely will never be used.

Above are a couple of examples.
I could do with the charity shops being open now to obtain some interesting vessels to cover.

You can use grout or make home made dough.
If you make your own dough you can even colour it before  you start.
I've been out and got the salt and a couple of food colours and probably after Christmas I shall give this a go.

  1. I just Googled memory jugs. They took me back to plant pots covered in sea shells. I suppose you could go looking for detritus and glass on the beaches?

    1. I have made mosaic plant pots before by covering terracotta pots with broken tiles and they lasted a surprisingly long time in all weathers but with these I could use beads and broken jewellery.
Thought you might like to know that the Ukulele has me hooked, I'm spending so much time playing the thing I'm sure Tom is sick of it, lol

  4. Oh how fun, Briony!! I saw something similar on someone's blog (I forget where) where they made a Christmas tree out of old jewelry. It was gorgeous, just like these teapots. I know you'll show us when you make yours. I can hardly wait to see. ~Andrea xoxo
