DECISION TO MAKE.

In my last post I showed the Hedgehog who had visited the garden and how exciting it was to actually see one for real.

I have continued as usual to put out the dog food for the foxes and of course it's all gone in the morning but unless I sit at the window all evening there's not much chance of me seeing him again.

I was surprised at how fast they can move and I think that after hastily gobbling down some food he is off like a shot, therefore it's difficult to know if he's been back.

I have wrestled with myself over if I should make an effort to put out food especially for him each night as once I start I would feel obliged to keep it up.

But my softy side said yes, put some out.

I had previously put some food right alongside the shed where I hoped the fox couldn't get it and it has disappeared each night, but knowing Mr.Fox he may have shoved his leg along and got to it.

So, to solve the question of whether the Hedgehog has been back I've place an upturned box with a slab on top and some dog food right at the back of the box. I'm hoping that this is fox proof and if the food goes it will indicate that the Hedgehog is still coming.

I have put a garden chair over the top of the box to keep it in place and now we wait.....

  3. You are indeed a softy; good! So there is a hole in the box just big enough for the hedgie? But not the fox? I so hope little hedgehog is the one getting the food! I can't wait to find out.

  4. I hope you see him again. We have a hedgehog in our garden in Bulawayo, so exciting. We’ve only seen him a few times.

  6. It would be quite easy to set up a small camera linked directly to your computer. You could call it Hedgehog TV.

  7. Thrilled that you have had a hedgehog visiting. Do hope he/she comes back. The idea mentioned here of setting up a camera to see if she does and also be able to see the other visitors you have to your garden sounds exciting and so interesting. I so miss not having a garden :-) I do get the occasional lizard crawling up to the balcony which is ok with me as they eat the mosquitoes. Look forward to seeing if Hedgehog returns :-) Amanda x

  9. Hmmmm...too bad you don't have an automated outdoor camera to film him when he comes round. (Like we do with our foxes.) Then you could know what's eating the food. Once when I was in Homebase I saw a bag of special hedgehog kibble -- maybe if you ordered some of that the foxes wouldn't like it, but the hedgehog would? Hmmm...
