WHOOPS-A-DAISY

Today we met up with our daughter for lunch at M&S, we have to pick her up as she isn't able to drive at the moment due to a back operation and is on crutches.

After dropping her home we wanted to find some suction / stick on hooks.
We tried B&Q, Screwfix, etc but no joy.  Then we remembered the little hardware shop we pass on the way.
On finding a parking spot right outside the shop Tom pulled in to let me out before continuing to park.
I got out of the car, closed the door and promptly tripped and went down in a heap on the pavement.
Meanwhile Tom had looked out of the car window and not seen me and thought I was already in the shop.
Now, these days when I get down on the floor I need a chair, bed, worktop to grab to heave myself back up again as my legs seem to have lost their oomph!
A young boy with a bike asked me if I was okay and I said yes I was not hurt and he went on his way.
Meanwhile Tom is still merrily parking up, got the picture???
Well, after working things out I managed to get upright and went into the shop, found the hooks and came out and got back in the car.
"I just fell over" I said to Tom.  "Oh, I saw you weren't there and thought you were in the shop".
All I can say is, it's a good job I didn't walk around the back of the car because he would most probably run me over. lol
Getting old is such fun.......

  1. We are the SAME!! A couple years ago, I tripped and fell getting out of the car in front of Target. Fortunately, Phil DID see me. But I was hurt, and we had to call an ambulance. I knocked my front teeth out, and they were in pieces in my bottom lip. And messed up my legs. I was laying in the hot sun, and the dear ladies who worked in Target brought out something to stand over me and shade me till the ambulance got there. Awhile later, I got an official letter from Target asking if I was going to sue them. NO, it was my own clumsy fault. I am SO glad you were not really hurt! My shoulders and knees are busted up, and once I am down on the floor, I cannot get up. Both my rotator cuffs are torn, so I am unable to pull myself up with my shoulders. Whoohoo, SO glad you are alright, my friend!!!

  17. I've also done the falling down thing, the last time badly enough to end up in the hospital (precautionary, to be sure I hadn't had a stroke, which I hadn't) and the good part was that I was referred to a physical therapist who specializes in balance issues and she's been so helpful! Just a few tips I've learned: at our age we can't just crash about as we are used to--slow down. I'm always in a hurry to accomplish enough to justify my space on the planet--now I try to be more measured in my movements, which does not identify me as an OAP, but seems rather graceful and self-assured. I have also discovered that my muscle strength has weakened appallingly without my noticing, and am doing a series of simple exercises (in my kitchen while I wait for a pot to boil, not in an insane fitness center) and I think that is helping me feel more steady. Cheers to all of us, Kate in Oregon
