ALL ORANGEY..

Our kitchen has needed a paint up for ages but neither of us have the inclination or the energy to do it.
Last Friday we mentioned this to Penny our daughter and she said that she would come over this Friday and do it for us.
We volunteered to paint all around the edges to make it quicker for her and so this morning before we had time to change our minds we got out the ladders and paint and set to.
Tom is no good climbing ladders with his breathing and so he was set the lower areas and I did the ladder work.

Here you can see that the colour we have chosen is orange.
Not everyone's taste but I was watching a programme about Freddie Mercury the other day and  he had this room painted orange, I though it looked lovely and so I must say thanks to Freddie for the choice.

You can see from the filled in area in the corner what it is going to look like and it goes well with the jigsaw floor.
I think a new bin will have to be in order as the yellow does clash a bit, lol
We're both going to have a shower now and tomorrow we will probably feel as though we've run a marathon. lol

While I'm on the subject of orange, we bought these sunflower seeds last week.
They should grow to 10ft. that's if I can keep the fox and the cats off them long enough.
I think I'll have to make some kind of wire to go round them until they get big enough.
Wish us luck, we've never grown sunflowers before.

  3. Love that orange! It is perfect with the floor. And the bin looks good with it too. I certainly know what you mean by not having the energy to tackle the bigger jobs. I have several smaller items, a dresser and chest, and can't seem to get the ambition to start on them. Glad Penny is volunteering to help out.

  4. Re the marathon effect--I was astonished how exhausted I was after 3 coats of paint on our pantry over the holidays. I did both the cutting in at the edges and working along the bottom [on my knees!] The orange paint is daring--but what a cheerful kitchen you have created!
I love sunflowers--most recently I have grown the 'dwarf' variety which often tend to be taller than I am. There are some labeled 'miniature'--would like to try those in a big container. At their peak with the heavy flowering heads they do need to be staked.

  5. Orange is my daughter's favourite colour, she might choose it to paint a room in. A little north of us they grow huge fields of sunflowers, wonderful to see when they are flowering. I think they'll be turned into cooking oil.

  6. Wow! Not for my kitchen, but looks like it will be great with yours! Very bright and cheery. Good luck with the sunflowers, they are pretty easy.

  7. Love the orange. You may have to be careful with Tom painting. Fumes from some paint can exacerbate breathing problems. I have to vacate the premises!

  8. Wow, that is a bold colour but looks lovely especially with your flooring. I believe if you cut on onion in half and place cut side up on a plate in the room that has been painted, it will absorb the smells, then just discard. xcx

  9. I couldn't believe it-my top dog has a fleece the same design as your lovely floor x

  10. Never fear bold colors. Wonderful of your daughter to help, but don't give her all the credit, the corners and edges are the toughest part of a painting job...filling in is easy.

  11. I cannot WAIT to see the finished job!! I think orange totally fits your kitchen, after seeing your little Mexican man! As for the trash can, orange and yellow are in the same family, so it does not look awful. This will really brighten up your kitchen, and make it cheerful and fun.

  14. Bright orange? Such a subtle, sophisticated and understated colour choice - befitting your gentle and reticent personality Briony! Or as you might say > lol!

  15. My kitchen used to be a similar shade of orange. I changed it to yellow after a while and regretted it. I'm sure it'll look fab once it's finished.

  16. Gosh Briony we had an orange kitchen back in the early 70s - I loved it.
We sold the house and heard later that the first thing the new owners did (within the first week!) was paint over my lovely orange kitchen.
It might take a bit of getting used to but I'm sure you'll love it too
    Take care

  17. Love the orange! We're thinking about painting our kitchen, too. We're thinking yellow, but orange is an interesting option!

Those sunflowers will be amazing. We're going to have a wildflower patch in a corner of our garden, and I'm sure we'll face the same issues with protecting them from pests (and pets!).

  18. I love that jigsaw flooring! And it looks great with the orange walls. Not my color palette but I can appreciate it in other people's homes.
