PRINCESS HAS A BROKEN FOOT.

On Wednesday in the evening we noticed that Princess was limping.
As Rowan has often had a limp from jumping off of the wardrobes we were not concerned.  Rowan is usually fine in a couple of days.
Yesterday, she was still limping and when we touched her foot she cried.
I rang the vets but they could only fit us in this morning.
No food after 10 o'clock last night in case she needed an anesthetic.

So we took her along at 9.30 this morning and after the vet gently feeling her foot he thought she may have broken something.
We left her there for an x ray and we were told later in the day that she had broken one of the bones in her back foot.
How on earth did that happen?

It was odd on Wednesday when Tom went into the bathroom this linen basket was laying on the floor on its side.
As you can see this is next to the sink and Rupert likes to sit on this for a tickle and then goes into the basin for a drink.
We can only think that he jumped off and tipped it over and it fell on Princess's foot.
What other explanation can there be?

The vet showed me the x ray and it was clear to see the break in the long bone.
Luckily it was a clean break that didn't need any pins etc.
So, we have one miserable little moggy with a bonky foot.  She's not happy poor thing.
She is managing to get around but with difficulty, I'm sure as time goes on she will master it but for now there's nothing we can do.
Cats are so wonderful, as soon as she got home she bonked her way into the bathroom and managed to get into the litter tray., she could easily have done this in the carrier but she waited until she got home.
We have to take her back in two weeks time for another x ray to see if its mending okay.

Apparently its unusual for cats to break bones unless they are in a road accident.

  1. Poor little puss. You didn't get Noel the supervet to fix it then. Oh how I love that man.

  2. Aw bless, poor little thing. Hope it mends without further trouble. Our Betty dog was limping on her right foreleg the weekend before last, with no obvious cause and no whingeing from her. We kept an eye on her and were going to ring the vet first thing Monday morning....however, Monday dawned and she was completely fine, no sign of the limp. They do worry us, these animals, don't they?

  3. Oh, poor girlie! And poor you and Tom; it is hard to see a pet in pain or uncomfortable. I wonder if another possibility is that she slipped off the edge of the sink and fell awkwardly to the floor, hitting the hamper along the way? Cats are usually sure-footed but I have seen ours slip sometimes. Anyway, I hope the healing goes quickly for Princess.

  12. Poor thing! Yes, cats always seem to fall right side up! The hamper must have tipped over on her, do you think? But even that is hard to believe, since she is used to bring on it! Does she have pain medicine? Is her foot wrapped, or in a cast?

    1. It's a hard sort of cast Ginny and quite difficult for her to walk although she is managing to get about. She is on anti inflammatory meds and we have to go back in two weeks for another xray.

Bonking her way to the bathroom? You should have named her Princess Margaret!

    1. We have no idea how it happened but the vet said it was rare for a cat to break a leg unless it had been in a traffic accident.

  17. Hope the dear little one is feeling better. It's so hard to keep them from being active when they are injured. Hope she doesn't try any acrobatics with the cast on.
Bless her heart for waiting to get home and use the litter box. Cats can be such fastidious little guys. They sure don't like to get themselves or their area messy.

    1. All of the others are keeping away from her, they can't make out this bonky leg.
She is coping really well, I found her at the top of the stairs this afternoon.
