PRINCESS

I apologise to those of you who may have read a post this morning concerning Princess who may have had to have an amputation of her leg.
I removed the post shortly after receiving a call at home from the Orthopaedic Specialist who had looked at the x rays.
He was very much against amputation and recommended that we leave the leg uncovered and let it heal itself.  She still has the other three bones to support the broken one and he thinks this is the best option.
I cannot for the life of me understand why she had to have splints on for 8 weeks if this is the way forward but I am not the expert.

This is what the leg looked like yesterday after coming out of the splint.
The toes are swollen and the inside of the 'knee' is raw.
The vet was angling for pinning the leg but reading up on this I did not fancy putting her through it and then maybe it going wrong as it appears it often does.
So thank goodness for the expert opinion.

Today she has cleaned it up a bit and is managing to walk a few steps.  The heat isn't helping but I do feel that overall she is better than she was.
So, £700 later I am hoping that there will be no more visits to the vet.
We both feel drained today after not sleeping much last night going over and over what to do but a good nights sleep tonight and we'll be back on track tomorrow.

Meanwhile 'Bayleaf' the gardener is watering the 'Bijou' garden having a close eye kept on him by Miss Polly the overseer. lol
Really pleased with it this year, everything has been brilliant.

  1. My heart sank when I read your beginnings of the post earlier and I did think amputation. I do now think this advice is the best way forward. While she had the pot on etc. she wouldnt use it would she. Hoping and etc this works. I really feel for you, so worrying. xxx

  3. What happened to Princess? I tried to check back on your blogs, but couldn't find anything. How did she break her leg? We had a cat that broke her leg - getting it caught when climbing over a fence. She wore a cast with a metal brace for a long time, but it healed well. I did see something about a fox with mange that you were treating? What did you use? We have a feral cat that has mange on his nose... and didn't know there was anything to do for it but a medicated bath... which is impossible as he is feral.

  4. Poor little love, no wonder you feel drained. Lets hope if she takes it easy it will heal on it's own.

  6. Poor sweet girl. I wonder if it was hurting her all the time it was in the cast and that's why she was so miserable. Anyway, hoorah for experts! I hope it comes along better now. And with three other legs, she will get around okay while it's healing. Not like us humans with only two :) Here's to having a good sleep and feeling better tomorrow.

  9. Fresh air and Nature can often work a little miracle. An emotionally draining day for you (even without the financial aspect and the heat) so I hope today is a better day for all, especially Princess.

  18. I see so many street cats who have leg injuries and they manage to heal themselves without intervention. Perhaps not 100% but they do manage. It's good they finally took the splints off Princess.
