TIME IS MY ENEMY

I am making a start on a new page for the Fabric Journal and decided to use a hexagon that I made some time ago.
Rather than take a photo I decided to take the one I had used in my Flikr Photostream.
I could not believe my eyes when I saw that I actually made this in 2010.
That's 8 years ago and in my mind I thought it was probably a couple of years.
This is the one thing that is bugging me.  Time is going past so fast and I don't want it too.
I'm 72 now and if I'm lucky I may have another 10 years of so.  So its a bit worrying to think that those 8 years have slipped by without me realising it, better get cracking and try to do the things I have planned in my head. lol

This is the hexy that I speak about, untrimmed but ready for use.

So, I've trimmed it and stitched it in the centre of another page, added an edge and worked the background.
Something new for me is the glitter, not sure if you can see it. I've roughly coloured the background with my Pro Marker pen and then brushed glitter glue all over the surface.

I now intend to work four dragonflies, one in each corner.
I have no idea how I'm going to do these and so I think a bit of experimenting on a spare bit of linen will be the next thing.

  1. Beautiful! I'd recognize that flower anywhere -- it's cow parsley, isn't it?! We have some in our back garden! Good luck with the dragonflies and I know what you mean about time. It DOES fly. It's scary.

  2. Briony, you have put into words so well what I've been feeling the last few years, too. It's always in the back of my mind, that urgency, because I see how fast time is going by. I keep thinking, I only have this many years left *if I'm lucky*.

This is such a pretty piece of handwork but then I love pale pink, tiny beads, and daisy-like tiny flowers, so you've pretty much hit all the high spots for me :)

  4. I DO see the glitter! Your work is so gorgeous, as usual. Time is the enemy of us all, but especially us seniors. Funny thing that the older we get, the faster time seems to be speeding up. Both Phil and I have remembered things from a couple years ago, only to find out they happened maybe seven or eight years ago!

  5. I know exactly what you mean about time going by too fast. I'll think something happened just a few months ago only to find out it's been a few years..
I can see the glitter and it looks great. I like the hexie too

I didnt realise that you were 72..I thought that you were more early 60s!Well you certainly dont look 72!!I must admit though that time does go by faster as we get older. Can you remember when the 8 weeks we used to have off school in the Summer holidays used to last forever!!.I wish that we could have them days back and know what we know now! Oh I wish that I could be 15 again, lol.xx

  10. the hexie is gorgeous. I use my blog all the time to settle when something happened. since I blog about everything and anything, I can use it like I did 2 weeks ago. we thought we bought tires for bob's truck last year, it was 3 years ago, it happens a lot, I check the blog to see when something happened and WOW how did that many years go by. I am 2 years older than you are and bob is already 10 years older than you are, so I think you have at least 20 years to go, not 10. does that help?

  12. Yes. The way you considered time passing by - it is pretty scary. Life will be done before we know it and there will be so many other things we still wanted to do.
