Over the last 2 or 3 days Rupert has not been himself.
Every morning as soon as it gets light he is always the one causing a commotion until one of us gets up to let him out but for the last couple of days he has not bothered.
We noticed that he had a slight limp for a couple of days but this seems to have righted itself, but he is spending all day down by the radiator beside the sofa and hasn't wanted to come out into the kitchen.
He and Polly are the only one's who wander away from the garden and we see them walking on the walls and off on their tours.
He is playing when I get down with him and is enjoying a tickle. He's eating and drinking and I have kept an eye on his toilet and all is fine.
We are wondering if maybe he has been caught by a car or had a fight with another cat.
We cannot find any wounds and once he comes out from the corner he seems happy.
We shall just have to keep an eye on him and hope he gains his confidence again.
In a way I hope whatever has happened has put him off wandering, I would be happier if he just kept to the garden like the others.
It's hard having cats that wander. I had many over the years and would always worry about them. Now I can't deal with it and they have to be indoor cats. I do my best to keep them happy and add lots of stimulating toys, cat trees, window seats and so on to please them. I do hope Rupert is ok and is back to his old self again minus the wander-lust. Hugs
ReplyDeleteRupert is such a handsome fellow. It is a worry when a pet is not acting in the usual way. I hope he feels like himself soon but stays home more). Your thoughts on a close call or fight seem reasonable.
ReplyDeleteIt is worrisome for sure. I know when a cat feels sick, they will just go off by themselves. They do not show it, because in the wild that would make them prey. Maybe just a little checkup at the vet?
ReplyDeleteI"m always anxious when one of our cats seems 'offish'--vet care us so expensive and it is difficult to make the decision whether to 'wait and see' what might be going on or to call immediately for an appointment. Hopefully Rupert is merely having some 'down time'and will perk up in a day or two. I've noticed that when my long-haired cats seem mopish they may be working on a hair ball!
ReplyDeleteI think you may be right, being long haired he does suffer a lot from hair balls and when finally expels one they are huge. It was just the fact that he was limping for a couple of days that worried me. We have a road nearby and I have caught him running across it a couple of times.
DeleteIf only they could talk eh? Maybe he's had an arguement with his lady love and is pining a little bit

It's hard to figure out what their reasons are for change in behavior.
ReplyDeleteAs you say all you can do is watch. Thomas came in the other day with a huge bulge on his ear, we thought cat fight but it was a rupture caused by flicking his head! Back to the vets today. Hope Rupert is back to himself soon xcx
ReplyDeleteYou said he had had a slight limp. I wonder if he has got a thorn or a piece of glass in one of his paws. I had three cats in my life - Oscar, Blizzard and Boris and I loved them with all my heart.
ReplyDeleteI hope he is going to be okay. Such a pretty fellow.
ReplyDeletehope he is ok and not sick...
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard and you wish they could speak just to let you know what thev problem is. Hope hes better soon.
ReplyDeleteIf you say he is eating and drinking as well as using his litter box, I wouldn't worry too much. It could be a difficult hair ball and there is Laxatone which can help get it up. And I agree that if he's limping, examine his feet for problems. Sometimes they rip out a toenail and that could be painful. I would keep him inside so you can watch him until he seems like himself again. He sure is a good looking cat.
ReplyDeleteRupert is so handsome.....hope he's doing ok. It's such a worry when you just know they're not quite right but can't find or see anything wrong. Give him a hug from me! x
ReplyDeleteI hope that he feels well soon.I think I mentioned about 6 months ago, that Filbert one of my cats was limping badly...that a nasty cat had moved over the close from us and bit him.I know it was that cat because it was attacking my other cats too.Even coming into my garden to attack them.It was attacking people and kids too.I had a strong word with the owner...and I hadnt seen it since then..But yesterday Lily, who when goes out likes to sleep in our front garden came in home with the same leg injury plus a bloody ear.I think that they are letting it out again.Cats seem to know when they are frightened of something.I hope Rupert is back to his normal self soon.xx
ReplyDeleteI hope he heals quickly. Before he came to live with me, Lukas injured his foot and had to be treated. Since coming here, he is content to stay indoors and does not climb except to get on the bed, chair or sofa.
