I have finished the latest book from Robert Galbraith aka J.K.Rowling.
'Lethal White' is the title and I enjoyed this book a lot.
It's quite a tome but it held me to the very end.
This is the good.

Wish I could say the same about the film 'A Star is Born'.
This film has got mixed reviews.
It started off okay but by the end I couldn't wait to get out of the cinema.
On the home front. My Grand daughter got through the first interview for Cambridge and today her Dad drove her up to the Uni in Cambridge for another couple of more in depth interviews.
She will know if she's got a place around about the middle of January.
She wants to study Politics and History.
One of the good things is that (would you believe it?) the cost of rooms is half that of most other universities.
Seems odd doesn't it when most of the students that go to Cambridge come from wealthy families.
Fingers crossed.
Indeed. 2 of our daughters went to Edinburgh Uni. Another prestigious uni. rents were pretty high there. We paid them so I know!
ReplyDeleteMy Grandson from Ayr went to Edinburgh, he did very well there and now works in Canary Wharf in London.
DeleteThis is a long time to wait. But if they called her back for another interview, that is encouraging! A Star Is Born is up for quite a few big awards, but I have no urge to see it. We saw the first one, so right from the beginning I know how it ends. I enjoyed the first one,and have no need to see a remake.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to your daughter! I hope it goes well.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that remakes of movies end up being attractive to different audiences than those who enjoyed them the first time around (or the most recent time around). I wonder if younger audiences who didn't see it years ago will have a different take on it. Especially with the lead female being so well known in the music world.
grand-daughter, sorry!
DeleteGood luck to your Grand daughter. Cambridge is a very prominent university. I saw A Star is Born and I thought it was ok but unlike the First it wasn't as good.
ReplyDeleteWishing your granddaughter wonderfully good luck!
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't you like the Star is Born film, Briony? I haven't seen it, I'm in two minds as to whether to or not, I really liked the Barbra Streisand one.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen any of the other versions of the film so did not compare it. I loved it when it started but by the end it seemed to lack content and I got bored. The music is good but then maybe I'm picky. We didn't pay too much to see it going to the cheap afternoon showing, I would have been more annoyed had I paid a lot though.
DeleteGive it a try, you may like it.
Hope all goes well for your grand daughter.
ReplyDeleteI've only seen a couple preview for that movie. Sorry it wasn't so good.
Best of luck to your clever granddaughter!
ReplyDeleteWhat a long time to wait and worry, fingers crossed though xcx
ReplyDeletemy friend Lola went to see Star is born and loved it and said she liked it better than the first one. I knew I would not like it but now you did not like it. strange... good luck to your granddaughter, I am sure she will do well there
ReplyDeleteI've only heard good things about A Star is Born. It didn't come to theaters here so wasn't able to see it. Good luck to your granddaughter. My eldest boy graduated in May with degrees in Political Science and Anthropology. :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it brilliant when they do so well. I'm sure you are so proud of your son.
DeleteI loved the first part of the film but it seemed to lose its appeal for me half way through.
