Yesterday the Dr told Tom he couldn't tell if he had an infection because his lungs were too noisy but gave him antibiotics anyway and said to ask the radiographer if he had an infection, she said she couldn't tell him, phew! she said to hold off taking them, so altogether we feel like screaming.
He has had the x-ray and lung function test and we are waiting for the consultant to call today and hoping something can be done, neither of us are getting any sleep due to him coughing all night.
Rupert on the other hand is amost back to his normal self, the wound is great and last night he was at his usual station with Princess on the kitchen table straining to get to the dishes of food I was preparing, so its not all doom and gloom.
I'm so sorry Briony, I hope the consultant does ring and can offer a solution. Good news about Rupert though xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that Tom isnt feeling great.I hope that it gets sorted soon and that he will be on the mend. Its such a worry though..one day cats next day Family!.Tell him hes got to get well for springtime cause I want to see him on his mobility scooter down on that beautiful seafront!!.I would go up to him and say Hello...and he wouldnt have a clue who i was!!Get well soon Tom,xx
ReplyDeleteOh how frustrating. I do hope they call you soon and give you some information so that Tom can get some relief.
ReplyDeleteTom must be exhausted. A good night's sleep is often the best medicine of all. I notice the title of this blogpost is "Had Enough" but it is important that you stay strong, loving and upbeat in this trying phase of your lives.
ReplyDeleteGood luck; I hope you are helped to have a plan to proceed by the end of the day. It's very frustrating when the professionals can't even agree. This is only my opinion or logic, but it seems to me that the potential benefits of the antibiotics would outweigh the negatives, in a situation where they can't tell if he has one or not. It's good to hear that Rupert has his appetite back and is on the mend. Hopefully Tom will follow.
ReplyDeleteprayers for both of you and that the doctor will find something to help with the coughing.. this has to be so frustrating to be told that by the doctors. hugs and pass them on to your kitties. glad he is doing better.
ReplyDeleteDear Briony ~ I do hope you get some kind of news soon, to help with this situation. Do take care of yourself so that you can continue to take care of Tom.
ReplyDeleteGlad to read Rupert is doing better.
Love, hugs and prayers for the both of you ~ FlowerLady
Sending out our best to you and Tom. FWIW they told me I had 6 months to 2 years to live when they first found my cancer, 10 years ago. All in all I have felt pretty good during this time, some down periods but for the most part not so bad. I know the battle Tom, (my name too) is going through and as a result you too. Think positive and have a great day. I really love your blog. Thanks
ReplyDeleteTom
I'm sure you have had enough. I would have too.
ReplyDeleteIt must be very difficult to keep going with all this uncertainty. Anything that disturbs sleep is awful. Please don't give up. I hope they find a solution soon.
ReplyDeleteOh brother! How frustrating! It seems like it would be better to take the antibiotics unnecessarily than to hold off and allow a potential infection to fester -- but I'm not a doctor, so what do I know.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh. Let us know as soon as you hear anything. Praying!
ReplyDeleteI know Tom's situation could be serious and hopefully you've heard from the consultant by the time you read this as I imagine he needs to take the antibiotics or something with codeine (or whatever) to control the cough. But I'm going to mention here something that you'll probably laugh over as it has no medical basis that I know of and is probably considered an old wive's tale... but whenever we have the kind of cough that doesn't stop and keeps you up all night we do this (and believe it or not, it works for us - may not for Tom but what's the harm?) Put Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of his feet and then warm socks. This has actually given us a good nights sleep on those awful coughing nights. May not work for Tom, but worth a try?
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the Vicks. I put it on the bottom of my feet and then put a pair of warm socks on.
DeleteIs the news good? I do hope so. x
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry your medical professionals are not more help...I too have tried the Vicks trick and it appeared to help. Fingers crossed for you and Tom.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for the phone call is so difficult! I certainly hope by now you have heard and Tom has some relief.
ReplyDeleteAs everyone else says I do hope you get some constructive help from the consultant. Sounds interesting about the Vicks
ReplyDeleteSorry Tom is still feeling bad. That coughing at night is a bugger. Hope he can get some relief.
ReplyDeleteYea! Glad to hear Rupert is better.
Watch out for sneaky cats. Our old senior lady jumped on the counter to steal some chicken the other night. Caught her in the act before she could kitty lip it.
Happy weekend.
