WE THOUGHT WE COULD DO IT

Let me put you in the picture.
We have two single beds in the large bedroom downstairs but as Tom makes a racket when he is asleep I have moved upstairs to the smaller bedroom in another single bed.
The mattress up there is stingy and thin and my hip is protesting but the one downstairs is luxurious and soft.
SO, we pair of 'had it' pensioners decided that we possibly still had a bit of spring left in us and thought we would change the mattresses over.
What could be easier that sliding a mattress down the stairs and sliding another back up.

We did it, but after getting one up we had to sit on the edge of the bed getting ourselves together in order to deal with the other one.

What can be sadder than an old couple holding hands sitting on the edge of a mattress recalling the times when we used to carry a sofa with one hand, lol

I think we deserved the tea and white chocolate biscuits we had after don't you?

  1. You did it!We find that our bodies just don’t move like they used to.Not only do you lose the strength but also the flexibility. How often do we say that we hope no one is watching us!This getting old is no joke but I bet you enjoyed the biscuits as a reward.Barbarax

  2. Oh yes, that definitely calls for a celebration. I have a hard time with things that were once so easy to do becoming difficult.

  3. Errrmmmmm, I gather that you didn't engage in a bit of rumpypumpy on the newly arranged mattresses, just for testing purposes of course ;o)

  5. You could carry a sofa with one hand? That's either an exaggeration or you had a doll's house! Did Tom play with it too?

    1. Funnily enough, back in the time we did make dolls houses and the furniture that went into them so actually it's not a lie, lol

  6. Great work guys.
I think I'd of needed a sit down too so don't worry about that. The tea and biscuits sound great!

  7. Think you deserve a cuppa and bikkies after that. Very interested to hear you used to make dolls houses and furniture as we too make 1/12th scale miniatures and dolls houses. Would be lovely to see your work xcx

    1. This was way back about 20 years ago and mobile phones etc weren't so common so we didn't take photos only of the houses, I must rake them out.

  8. At least you - and we - can still laugh about it! Not long ago, we brought an armchair downstairs....just one armchair, all the cushions, including the arms, come off it, so we could do it in sections. But the solid wood frame seemed to weigh twice as much as it did when we took it upstairs a couple of years ago! We did have to laugh as we were doing it, one stair at a time, in between the cursing when we bashed our fingers or stood the frame on our toes. Glad you had not just biscuits but chocolate ones afterwards.

  9. All these side effects of aging that we didn't expect! We are having side by side bedrooms in the new house as sadly we take turns keeping the other awake with snuffling/snoring racket.

  10. This getting older lark isn't fun is it. I have been kept awake for years by Tony snoring. It's payback time as when I turn over my hip has me shouting in my sleep. Not for much longer.. six weeks tomorrow and I will be bionic.

    1. I shall be interested to see how your hip op goes, mine is terrible and like you makes me involuntarily shout out.

  11. Bless your hearts and bodies for this accomplishment. I cannot turn my mattress by myself. It is a memory foam one and very heavy. It was hard enough when there was the two of us to do it.

  12. Zip won't even attempt such maneuvers any more. He says that's what the kids are for. Unfortunately, they aren't that young either.
Hope there were no day-after aches and pains. And you were very lucky that no kitties got underfoot!
Hope you find the dollhouse pictures. Would love to see them.

  13. so glad you got it swapped out and no one was injured in the making of this story/post. ha ha... we to are having episodes like this one, things that were simple just a few years ago, are now mega acts that we struggle with.... our mattress is a dual king, neither of us can move it. or the bed.

  14. I had a little giggle to myself as I pictured you resting on the edge of the bed.

  15. This sounds so much like Phil & I. Hurray for both of you, you DID it! Have some extra biscuits; after all, you got a lot of exercise.

  16. I think you deserve more than that. Good job!

  17. Mattresses are so bulky, heavy and hard to hold on to. Sounds like a big job. We just went through a few days of something similar. With the passing of my mother-in-law, we had lots of furniture to move around and rearrange. When she moved in with us, we had emptied her room and fit the furniture wherever we could find an empty corner. All is back now, but there was lots of choice language and lots of "resting" that I don't remember from 3-1/2 years ago when it was last moved!

  18. Wow impressive sounds like an episode of "I Love Lucy" My parents had a similar problem and the bought a foam pad and put it on top of the uncomfortable mattress. It was a tad lighter 😊

  21. Look at your two! Making yet another beautiful memory for yourselves. (Although you're both paying for it sore muscles). Enjoy that tea break. You deserve it.

  23. It was bad enough just turning my mattress, goodness only knows what I would do if I had to remove it altogether. Getting old doesn't wear well with me lately.
