SERGER/OVERLOCKER WOES

Now that I'm in a better frame of mind having got Tom's horrible consultant and my Arthur  sorted I have started back on my needlework.
I couldn't find any enthusiasm for it while things were all up in the air and we were both in the doldrums a bit.

So, I though I would make a start on getting the fabric journal put together.
A light bulb moment said that it could be a good idea to use the serger to neaten the ends of the pages and use some of my multi coloured cottons.
This meant re threading the serger,  Whoooooaa!
Every time I change the cottons  I know that I will have trouble.
AND I DID.

Its taken most of the morning to sort it out and I had to get in my trusty mechanic (aka Tom) who has infinite patience (unlike me) to sort it out.

Straying from the serger for a minute I'll tell you that I'm the kind of person who only likes the good bits, lol
I once had a sort of lambretta scooter but only wanted to ride it.
I didn't want to put petrol in or all the other  bits and I'm like that with any machine.
So you see why I got in the mechanic. ha ha.

Please to say he has put everything right and its working fine now.

I have quite a few pages now with a couple more in the pipe line.
Above is the edge that I was going to finish with the serger but after a lot of trial and error I think I may hand finish.
Thanks to all who commented on the Arthritis, I guess most people have it and it's a case of living with it.
When I look around I realise how lucky we are  after all, we could have worse to cope with.
We are both still able to see, use our hands and laugh together, that's a lot isn't it?
even if we do walk around the supermarket like the couple on the road signs, lol

    1. Like you Jill, we do have hobbies and I'm sure that makes all the difference. I can't imagine what it would be like if we woke up each day just to sit and watch tv.

  3. Tom must be very good with things like this. So glad he was able to sort it out. I will go this sign one worse. I have to use the scooter in the grocery store.

  4. Well done to Tom! I am not sure what I would do if I had a sewing machine which got jammed! I know my husband would break it!

  5. I have no idea what a serger OR an overlocker are. Seeing that title, in my mind this post could literally have been about ANYTHING!

  6. Lovely sewing, they do look nice.
I was only saying to DH there are lots worse off than us, and how happy we both are most of the time with the little things that please us each day.
    Have a lovely day x

  7. Oh, me too with the machines. I want them to work and work well without any effort from me! lol

I've considered a serger/overlocker but I know I'd never learn how to thread the darn thing. Then it would become one more piece of aspirational clutter :)

Looking forward to seeing your hand-finish of this page.

    1. I have it working now Jenny and it really isn't that bad to thread, I'm just a really impatient person, lol. I bought mine for £2.00 at a car boot, it was lying on the grass and I don't think they knew what it was, probably a house clearance. I took it home not knowing if it would work and it did, otherwise I wouldn't have one, they are too expensive and I don't use it that often.

    2. This is why we NEED car boot sales on this side of the Atlantic! You got a steal there. I'd have bought it too.

  8. Some guys love tinkering with cars but I have never been interested. I just want them to get me from A to B. I guess it's the same for you with sewing machines.

    1. Are we related in any way I wonder. I have a banana each morning and hate messing about with machines. I love the country side and we seem to enjoy similar books. By the way, I have just finished 'The Tattooist of Auschwitz' and agree with your review of it.

    2. Do you by any chance also enjoy mud wrestling with members of the opposite sex?

  9. Your pages are incredible - I am new to your blog so not sure if they are hand sewn or machine embroidery or a bit of both. I have trouble rethreading my overlocker - my domestic one is far harder to thread up than the heavy duty industrial one I used to have!
