Jin Shin Jyutsu is a healing art that not a lot of people have heard of.
We came across this about four years ago when a friend of mine had a talk at her 'Women's guild'.
We bought a basic book and did a lot of online searching and have been hooked on this since that time.
We mainly use our hands, but if you wanted to go further there are many other points on the body that can be used in a similar way to acupuncture.
As you can see, each finger represents a different part of the body and emotions.
By simply holding the relevant finger you can bring about subtle changes in your body.
I know many people will be sceptical about this but I can assure you it works.
Whether this is all in the mind or not I can't say but if you feel something is doing you good then surely it is.
All I know is that when Tom is really short of breath , say after walking too fast or trying the stairs he sits down and holds the little and ring fingers together (heart and lungs) and his breathing returns to normal in no time.
I have used this for many things like anger when I am up the wall or worry when things get too much and it does calm me by holding the relevant finger for a while.
Also holding the left little finger is helpful to bring down the blood pressure
You can have a total work out by holding each finger on each hand in turn to give yourself a real refresher
Here is a couple of links to get you started if you are interested.
I have held off from blogging about this as I know it may be a bit controversial but wanted to share it with you.
After all it's not going to kill you to hold your finger for a bit and you never know you may get hooked as well.lol
Very interesting, I certainly believe there is more to life than conventional medicine.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely give it a go. Thank you for posting about it, and for the links.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of it, but it sounds quite logical to me - if acupuncture and reflexology work (and I know they do) then why shouldn't this?
ReplyDeleteI watched the video, it is kind of like mediating but holding different fingers. I can see it calming a person that does it.. we have a lady who meditates in our tops group and this is a lot like what she does.
ReplyDeleteThis is so interesting! I have never heard of it. I am going to print your hand chart, and will go to the links to learn more. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting but with a pretty popping headache I tried it....nope it did not help. I help the thumb for about 3 minutes and even tried squeezing it..haha
ReplyDeleteProbably needs more than 3 mins Pam
DeleteI find this all very interesting. I'll check out the links. Wheter it's all in the mind or not really doesn't matter if it works and makes you feel better. Thanks for the info. I'm glad you posted it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this,it will help me a lot I think as I do tend to worry and panic about things. The yoga teacher I used to see showed us something simialar- think it was holding the area between thumb and finger x
ReplyDeleteThis is so interesting...and you are right, even if it is in the mind and it helps, it is good.
ReplyDeleteI think this is interesting and not insulted I would have felt little odd if it was telling me the future ha ha ha
ReplyDeleteComplete mumbo jumbo. Put it in the same box as homeopathy.
ReplyDeleteI think it is interesting Briony. If it works for you (or anyone) then it has to be a good thing. The mind is so powerful that if you believe in something and it is beneficial (placebo effect or not) It is worth giving a try. x
ReplyDeleteInteresting! Hey, whatever works, as they say. I suspect it has more to do with sitting quietly and focusing on something other than the part of your body that's bothering you -- it diverts your attention a bit and calms you down. You know?
ReplyDeleteThere are so many wonderful & successful methods of healing & wellness besides so-called "modern medicine". I wish traditional doctors reached for these treatments more than they reach for the prescription pad. Thank you so much for this wonderful information, Briony! Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteFascinating. I'm glad it works for both of you. Thanks for the links. I need to try the fear and worry one whilst watching/reading the news:)
ReplyDeleteIt is working for me.I have tried this a few times so far today and I can definitely feel the tension ease.I have had a quite" trying " day and I usually become a nervous wreck but have coped much better-Thankyou Briony x
ReplyDeleteMy anxiety over medical and dental appointments seems to be getting worse as I get older. It can't hurt to try this, and I will. I'm glad it's working for you and Tom as well.
ReplyDeleteHold your thumb and think positive, hope it helps. No good for a couple of minutes though, just keep hold of it as long as needed.
DeleteThanks, Briony.
DeleteCan't believe even a semi- intelligent person would believe in this sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of Jin Shin Jyutsu before. Thank you for alerting me and other visitors to this ancient process with its attendant beliefs. I can't believe that someone would dare to say "Can't believe even a semi-intelligent person would believe in this sort of thing" for as Hamlet says in the play that bears his name:-
ReplyDelete"There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy".
Thanks YP. I could have replied that the Queen seems to have had a lot of success with Homeopathy but I couldn't be bothered to fuel an anonymous commenter.
DeleteWho the hell would want to be "part of the world's biggest conglomerate"? It sounds bloody awful you creep! (Not you Briony!)
ReplyDeleteAnyone who doesn't believe that we have pressure points in our body that can be activated for all sorts of calming and healing is living under a rock. Pharmaceutical companies want to keep everyone hooked on the drugs they are selling for profit. Most doctors only treat symptoms rather than getting to the root of a medical problem. They don't even get much training on nutrition which could help a lot of people much better than popping pills. I for one would much rather try any sort of sensible, free natural remedy than resorting to expensive, chemical laden drugs. Just watched a documentary about grounding (connecting with the earth -- something most people have lost). I ran around barefoot all the time when I was a kid and was never sick. I am thankful to have a healthy immune system but certainly as we get older we need to continue to find ways to stay well and that means reconnecting with nature, eating more natural foods and finding simple ways of feeling at peace. If that means squeezing pressure points on your fingers, then so be it. What works for you is what's best. Nothing at all negative about that. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the links to this Briony, i'll have a good read about it. Sounds very helpful in dealing with personal issues.
ReplyDeletelove and blessings x
