Just recently my Grandson was a victim of the menace mainly in London of youths on mopeds who snatch phones and watches from people.
He was attending an event and could not get a signal inside the building and so went outside to talk.
Within no time they sped past and grabbed the phone and disappeared.
These people obviously know that there is no signal inside the building and wait for a victim.
It was more of an inconvenience than anything as the phone could be replaced but when it is needed for all of his work it was annoying.
With the stabbings that are rife in London I do worry about his welfare sometimes but this I'm sure will make him more aware.
Like most of people we think these things will never happen to us don't we?
I am so sorry to hear this, and glad he was not harmed other than replacing his phone which is a harrowing experience .. it is not just London, our world has gone quite mad...
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that this has happened to your grandson. They are complete and utter scum who do this just because they can, with no thought for no one but there scutty little selves. It happened to my grandson when he was 18.2 grown men?..I question the word men..beat him up and took his phone. He had been work all day and was walking home from visiting his grandad who was dying. The police didnt seem that interested so our family went out looking for them....While there is no punishment for these low lives, they will keep doing it.Myself...I would make sure that they never did it again.xx
ReplyDeleteThat is a horrible thing to happen. These people are just awful. I am so pleased that he wasn't hurt though - that is the most important thing.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Ellie
How scary for him and worrying for his parents and you and Tom, Briony, such a relief that he was alright. My ex-policeman brother (he worked in Kensington and later Notting Hill) always said that the best way to keep yourself safe is to walk purposefully, don't dawdle, don't have your phone or wallet in your hand and, above all, be aware of your surroundings.
ReplyDeleteThis issue is why I'm always hyper aware of who's around me when out in public, people might think I'm paranoid but I'm not bothered, I'd rather keep safe. I'm a cyclist and it's amazing how zombie-like people are around, people stepping into roads without looking, too busy looking at their phone to realise what's happening around them etc.
ReplyDeletesorry to hear this , how scary.
ReplyDeleteYikes! This has happened in our neighborhood quite a bit. I never take my phone out on the street unless i have to, and then I stand against a wall, with the phone close to it. The wall makes it harder for a snatcher to grab it. I'm glad your grandson wasn't hurt in that event.
ReplyDelete"Like most of people we think these things will happen to us don't we?" I suspect you meant to say "Like most people we don't think these things will ever happen to us - do we?"...or something like that anyway. See me in my study after school Briony - for extra tuition!
ReplyDeleteOh dear Mr YP. Every post I do I just know you will be scrutinising it for mistakes. As long as people get the gist of it I'm happy. I'll go and do my lines now. lol
DeleteTo be honest YP,I do expect these things to happen!.It is happening all the time in Leicester...I had a stabbing on my doorstep, the poor lad was so scared,he knew who they were but wouldnt name them...because no one would protect him if he did.And they would go free with a sob story, ready to get him again. This country is the pits now and if people dont think that then they must live in cloud cuckcoo land...Still loving your sons book by the way!,xx
DeleteWhat a rotten thing to happen to him, so pleased he wasn't hurt or injured in the process. I do hope these undesirables get their comeuppance in some way.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, how terrible. What an awful thing to happen. You're just not safe anywhere these days, are you? Daniel travels into London each day to work and it's a constant worry, you hear of so many awful things. I'm so glad you're grandson wasn't hurt but it does make you think that things could have been so much worse and that's so scary.
ReplyDeleteSeems to be no consequences for these yobs are there? Even if they are identified and caught- Nothing! or some lame excuse why not. They simply are vile x
ReplyDeleteI agree Flis,xx

ReplyDeleteDid he not hear a loud moped coming towards him?
ReplyDeleteThe traffic noise in London is horrific, so no, he wouldn't be able to distinguish one engine noise from another. I would be surprised if he could even hear what was being said on the phone.
DeleteVery scary. One reason why I won't go to London. But I suppose it can happen anywhere.
ReplyDeleteIlona,it is happening all over the country, not just London.Leicester is just as bad now...because there is NO Punishment given to these scum bags. When something like this happens,it changes the person, their life and they are frightened for the rest of their lives.Ok,I am going to say it...Hang the B.....ds and Im sure the crime rate would go down.xx
ReplyDeleteHope he was fully insured
ReplyDeleteHow horrible. It's awful that some people find it easier to cheat and steal from others rather than working for a living. So sorry that had to happen to him
ReplyDeleteHow awful! I am glad he was not harmed. I have not heard of this happening here, but I guess it is only a matter of time. Yes, it seems that all teenagers think they are invincible, it can never happen to them.
ReplyDeleteCrime is everywhere, there is no deterrent. We all carry valuables in the shape of phones, handbags and jewelry. Sign of the times.
ReplyDeleteThat is very frightening; I would be worrying all the time about my kids and grandkids if I lived in a bigger center. What nerve some folks have, to plan out and repeatedly steal from others who have worked for what they have. Argh. I'm glad your grandson was not physically hurt, although having that happen must work on a person's mind afterward.
ReplyDeleteThat is so scary...but like you say, maybe it will make him more aware of thing around him....
ReplyDeleteHow awful! I'm glad he wasn't hurt.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh that is awful!!!! I am in London about once a week and luckily have not witnessed this but I have of course read about it and hope it is not really as bad as the press make out, but now that I have just read about your grandson, I will try and be more careful about using my phone out and about. A huge pain for him as you say. Life is so nasty sometimes, but luckily, good usually outweighs bad.
