I received an email today from Sainsbury to say that the Government have approved us for help getting a shopping slot more easily.
I think they are going to free up some for the more vulnerable people and because Tom has a lung problem and must not go out we qualify.
I've been popping in and out of Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's sites on a regular basis to try to get a shop delivered but there are never any days available.
Penny is helping at the moment but it would be nice to be able to pick my own shop (if they have it in stock?)
If you think you qualify there is a form on the Government web site for you to fill in.
prayers for you to get that spot you need
ReplyDeleteThank you for this, that's useful to know.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to know you're getting help during this hard time, Briony. Just by virtue of being our age, we must be careful, and then with Tom's lung problem... well... it's nice for special provisions to be made. In our town there are a few grocery stores that are setting aside the first couple hours of the day, one or two days per week, for senior citizens ONLY, to be able to shop. I haven't gone so I don't know how busy they are, with making this designation. It's either a good thing or a very bad thing with too many seniors congregating in one time slot. It's so hard to know what to do. We'll all get through this together. Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have government help. I am in the US and not only are there no delivery slots from anyone available, there is no government intervention to help. I am on my own.
ReplyDeleteDave got one of those letters from the NHS about how he's vulnerable. He's self-isolating at home but I still do our shopping. Maybe I should look into this?
ReplyDeleteThey contact your doctor to verify that you are vulnerable and I think Dave is and then they contact the supermarket. I know you can shop but if you got the virus he would be stuck. Give it a go and fill in the form on the gov site. good luck.x
DeleteI tried to do something they advertised for those over 65... some sort of delivery service, but they asked too many personal questions (IMO), so I didn't go through with it. I did put an order in for "curb side delivery"... and yes, it had a week waiting... before pickup. But I went through with that one and will pick up this coming Thursday. You don't have to get out of your car. DH is going through radiation so we are being very careful.
ReplyDeleteInteresting about some slots being reserved for those who are vulnerable. I am having a food home delivery for the first time, a local natural foods store and a program in the US called Instacart. It is only $4 for a delivery plus tip for the driver, and I like the idea. I will report back how it works, there were plenty of slots open. No toilet paper or cleaning supplies available anywhere here in California, I must add.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you were approved for that.
ReplyDeleteI don't quite understand this. Where are you shopping, and why do you need a permit?
ReplyDeleteI too received an email today offering a priority delivery slot, mine was from Asda due to my chemo meds. One worry less for us Briony. x
ReplyDeleteI went to "Lidl" today and two shoppers separately came right into my personal space. I called loudly to one of them "Two metres!" as he barged past but he didn't turn around to debate the matter. Stupid idiot! It's safer to let them deliver to you Briony.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you have that sorted. We qualify for priority delivery being over 70 and have just had a delivery.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good plan. I'm impressed by how our groceries here are putting safeguards in place for both customers and employees. I could wish they had done certain things sooner, but given the circumstances I think they've done very well.
ReplyDeletepleased you've managed to get a slot. Were shopping local, cant face a supermarket visit!
