I SAVED THE DAY

WARNING
Anyone who hates snails, do not read as you will think I am bonkers.

During the hot weather we have put out a bowl of water for the seagulls and the foxes to drink from.

This morning when I looked out a snail was merrily making his way down into the water.
Oh, how cute I thought, he is having a drink.
But the fact was he couldn't stop, like on an icy path he was sliding to his doom.
I only notice this when I looked out for a second time and saw him submerged.

I got my crusader cape on and flew out of the back door and rescued him, putting him back on the ivy.

And in case you've never seen it before, here is a snail saying 'thank you' with a smile. lol
and wending his way merrily back to all his snail brothers and sisters.
My ivy is a snail sanctuary.

  1. I admit I'm not a snail fan. They get rehomed when I find them. Yuk.

  3. You could call your pub The Fox and Seagull. "Snails are very welcome". There's nothing wrong with being kind even to a snail.

  4. You're right Briony, you're bonkers lol. But very kind hearted. Have to say we wouldn't rescue them here!

  5. I did laugh. Lucky snail! Most people are trying to kill him.

  6. We spend all our time trying to keep them off our veggies! You are indeed very kind xx

  7. I feel that, too - I can't kill a snail or a slug. I don't care if they eat the garden. It doesn't matter to me. I'm so glad there are other people who think the same way.

  8. Your attitude suggests that you possess a natural Buddhist-like outlook with regard to other living beings. There's too much unnecessary killing going on in my opinion. Bravo Mrs Cater!

  9. I wouldn't mind them if they didn't eat my plants, if I see one I throw it over the fence into the waste land beyond.

  11. They have as much right to be here as everything else and provide a meal for many species. I'd have done the same.

    1. Exactly how I feel, we do not kill anything if we can help it. You should see us tip toeing in the gate to avoid stepping on them. lol

  12. LOve you! We don't have many snails now, but at one time if we came home in the dark it was my job to pick all the snails off the drive before my husband parked the car. I'm afraid I drew the line at rescuing slugs, though I would give them a lift into the grass with a stick. Any I found in daylight got popped into the compost bin where they lived quite happily with the huge worm population. x

  15. Awww!!!! Maybe you can try & put a plastic lid outside with some water on it... for those who can't swim very well. :-D I was thinking of a sour cream lid or even a milk cap, full of water. Oh how our hearts think alike, my friend. No wonder we get along so well. Love you~ Andrea XOXO

  16. F was not fond of the snails that helped themselves to our vegetables, but preferred to go in for trying to outwit them rather than poison or kill. Says a lot about a human brain the lengths it will have to go to in order to outwit a simple snail .... and still not win.

  17. I'm afraid it would have gone straight in the compost bin😏

  18. Not sure I would have been so generous, but good for you.

  19. Cool! In a world where kindness seems to be in short supply, thinking of the lives of other living things is so important. Even snails.

  20. I'm no snail or slug fan either. I cannot bear to watch them let alone touch them. They eat my plants and leave slimy trails. Now bees and wasps are a different thing altogether.

  21. Ha! Bravo for saving the snail! He probably needed a good drink, given how dry it's been. I pick snails off the sidewalk all the time, so they don't get stepped on, and put them on nearby garden walls. (Granted, the owners of the gardens may not appreciate it. But I figure the snails probably came from there, so no harm done.)

    1. Every living creature deserves a life Steve. I will avoid stepping on an ant if I can.

  22. ... and I always felt that if someone saw me saving the worms that crawl out to die on the hot sidewalk after a rain, they would think me crazy. Or picking up the lone cricket in the middle of the mall and placing him inside a potted plant. So there are 'others' who do the same? Thank goodness.

    1. We have a glass and paper always on the side to catch any insect that comes in, we then release them back outside. Every living thing deserves a life in my opinion. My garden could look much better if I killed the slugs and snails but I plant things that they do not like and it works.
