This morning I've been pondering on life's experiences.
I was wondering if when we 'pop off' do we take all of our experiences with us, all the things we have learned in our life time. Otherwise it all seems a bit of a waste doesn't it?
I like to think that we will be able to use them in a new life somewhere or maybe even here again.
This led me on to thinking about how some people seem to be born with 'gifts' that they can do with no trouble and others can't even sew a button on for example.
Are those skills from a previous life?
Some people may say that they wouldn't like to come back to this world the way it is, but Tom was born at the beginning of World War 11 and suffered the shortages and saw the bombers coming over, he didn't have a choice and just got on with his life. So I guess if you are being born now with the world and all it's camera's etc you will just accept it as normal.
It's only the older generation who are having problems accepting the new way of life isn't it?
Oh my mind, it goes in so many directions and keeps me on my toes, but sometimes I think it would be nice to be a little emptier in there, lol
What is your opinion?
Just to lighten the post, Here is my guinea pig money bank who thinks he's Napoleon. lol
I am of the opinion that when death arrives there is nothing beyond it. All that is left - if we are lucky - is the memories that people have of us, the love of our families and the things that we created and left behind. There's nothing more.
ReplyDeletei am smiling at your piggy bank sporting a hat. you are right about the gifts, i think everyone has a gift, just not the ones they want. it is like born with curly hair, wants straight and straight wants curly, tall want to be shorter and short tall. as humans we don't want what we have but what we don't. i have mind that never stops so fully understand the wandering thoughts. i do not believe we had other lives or that we will come again...

I wouldn't even know where to start, to contribute, but lest it suffice to say that I believe our soul/spirit never dies with our body and goes on to the next place. What or where that next place is? ReplyDeleteThat has got me thinking.I don’t think you are totally dead until every one with a memory of you has gone too.I once,years ago, asked my brother who is retired minister about how he viewed the afterlife.I asked how do square up having had two wives.His first wife died from cancer aged 32 and he then remarried.He said it would be a simpler more like child’s view.

I have seven ,two children and five grandchildren who have a bit of me in them.Not a lot of talent because I havn’t got any!!!!
I definitely think we 'move on'. I don't know where to but there has to be a reason for existence. I can't believe that when we die that is it. All that knowledge and experience would be a complete and pointless waste of time.
ReplyDeleteAs a child I had a Deja vu experience. We arrived on the Isle of Man almost 3 hours late thanks to a late departure and heavy seas. We had missed our meal time at the hotel and dad said we should ho and get fish and chips. To which I replied yes theres a good shop first turning on the left. I'd never been there before and there was indeed a chop shop where I had stated. We have never been able to explain it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think all that we learn is a waste even if we don't take it with us. It has enriched our lives and will contribute to the lives of those who come after us. Like you, with your needlework designs, described here on this blog! Who knows who they'll inspire someday? (Aside from all of us, obviously. :) )
ReplyDeleteI think about those things too. And I don't believe that love ever dies... or the energy/soul. It goes on to 'something else', the next great adventure. And yes, we all have gifts, just don't always recognize them as such. (maybe they're something that we're good at, something we simply enjoy, or something that makes another smile?)

ReplyDeleteWhat a cute photo! I asked Phil about this. He believes that what we have experienced and know is part of our soul. So it would go with us. But of course it is a huge mystery.
ReplyDeleteI believe our spirit stays with us wherever we go but we can't know for sure! I think I would like to come back to the world as it is. With all the conveniences and wonderful modern technology, minus the wars and starvation and hatred! What a joy that would be!
ReplyDeleteI think we do come back. With regards to gifts....if you've got a natural flair for something then it comes easily and sometimes we don't therefore recognise it as such. Gifts come in so many forms and everyone has got a gift for something. Arilx

ReplyDeleteWow Briony, with deep pondering like that your guinea pig must be wearing his sage hat. While I've always been in the YP camp (that your experience dies with you and all that remains is the impression you've made on others) I do wonder about the curiosity, or dexterity or mental agility that some seem to be born with that develops into what we think of as skills. Does everyone have something? Is it a question of nuture - what experiences it is fed with? There is mounting evidence that while it may not be programmed in genes, much of who we are, how we are in the world is heritable - even from grandparents we never met - that it lies in the chemical ways our cells read and interpret the dna they've been given. (Mess with the recipe a bit)

ReplyDeleteInteresting post. I'm a believer in Jesus and believe in life eternal after we pass through this life. Last night I started re-reading the book 'Heaven' by Randy Alcorn. I believe we who believe in Jesus and what He has done for us, will have a resurrected life in a resurrected body. We will live with resurrected Jesus/God on the resurrected Earth. That makes me excited! Death is a door into the next life. I highly recommend this book. It is full of scripture references and wonderful thoughts on Heaven.
