Thanks for all your comments on Rupert not being well.
Pleased to say he has eaten a little chicken and had his usual drink from the bathroom sink. He slept okay last night and didn't bother me as he had the night before so I think we can safely say he's turned the corner until the next time.
I have no idea what causes these episodes but they are alarming.
Animals cannot speak and let us know how they feel and after two operations on his bowels I'm sure he probably has scar tissue that maybe plays him up from time to time.
As for your suggestions of diet. We do all we can by only giving all of them special fur ball biscuits and he has a small dribble of lactulose (recommended by the vet) in his evening meal every day, apart from brushing we can do no more.
Glad he's feeling better!
ReplyDeleteA cat with semi-chronic health issues is always a worry--we have one [Edward] who has had repeated urinary blockages and I know that another one could mean putting him to sleep. Both the worry and the expense are formidable. Here's hoping Rupert is good for another round!
ReplyDeleteso glad he is better today, i know that feeling of helplessness when they can't tell us what they need.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are doing all you can, Briony, by which I'm not surprised. You love your kitties so and are a wonderful cat mommy. Please tell Rupert he is most welcome for the concern. With his pearly whites showing & his mouth open, he looks like he's indeed saying "Thank you everybody!". :-) ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteGood news today and long may that continue.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Ellie
What a handsome boy he is! Grest he is better today! Amanda x
ReplyDeleteI'm terrified of cats but glad he seems to be feeling better
ReplyDeleteCouldn't you crochet a little muzzle for Rupert? Wearing it would prevent him from swallowing fur. I think a red one would suit him best. Tom may be thinking that you should make one for yourself at the same time but not because of fur balls.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Tom would agree with you over the muzzle. I've been in a singing mood all day and can usually find a song to fit any words, I think it drives him mad although he's much too nice to say anything, lol
DeleteI think sometimes that he thinks I am off my trolley, lol
DeleteDoes he get extra benefit money for being your carer?
DeleteSo pleased to hear there has been an improvement.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we just feel off-colour. Don't humans? I felt a bit green yesterday, ate lots of grass at the beach, sicked all over the place (at the beach), had a sleep when we got home and felt hungry enough to contemplate some chicken when I woke up. Rupert, you understand don't you? It was just one of those days. We are glad you are feeling better. It's quite nice to have the humans fussing around though isn't it? xxx mr T
ReplyDeleteTigger, you are right and it's a great way to get chicken out of them, I know that's the thing they tempt me with when I'm ill.

Good news about Rupert. He is looking very perky! I had 5 cats over many years but never a black one. They were all variations on " tabby" .

ReplyDeleteglad he's on the mend.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that Rupert is feeling better. It's such a scare when our kitties get sick and we don't know what to do about it. It's so upsetting when you can't go along inside and be with your pet for routine visits, but not being able to go with them for their final time is just horrible.
ReplyDeleteI hope he continues to improve.
You and Tom take care and stay safe.
