I'm going to show myself up here by admitting that punctuation has always been a bit of hit and miss for me.
I'm not the cleverest person but then I'm not stupid. I did learn it at school but it seems to have gone out of the window with a lot of other things such as adverbs and prepositions etc.
I'm sure that YP at https://beefgravy.blogspot.com/ must despair at people like me as he was a teacher. lol
I write as it comes into my head and splash a few comma's and full stops where I think they look okay.
So, sorry if you have to read some stuff a couple of times to make sense of it but that's me. lol
This is more what I like to spend time on.
Tom, a bit of wool and cats.
x
Not a thing wrong with that, Briony! I love reading your thoughts-put-into-words just as they are, regardless of punctuation. ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat is what we visit for a bit of wool and a beautiful cat.
ReplyDeleteOh I did chuckle at this post. You and I have the same style of punctuation.
ReplyDeletePeople can be very pernickety about punctuation. But as long as the reader can understand what you’re writing , I don’t think one should worry too much.
ReplyDeleteHa, ha. Reminds of that Lynne Truss book...
ReplyDeleteA panda walks into a café. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air. "Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.
"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots, & leaves."
The purpose of punctuation is to aid expression. That is the only reason that it exists. Without reasonably accurate punctuation, the business of reading becomes more of a struggle and readers are forced to concentrate harder. I have been reading "Crafty Cats Corner" for a long time now and I have never found my understanding thwarted by poor punctuation.
ReplyDeleteHear hear.
DeleteI have never had any trouble reading or understanding your posts, and find them completely delightful!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way with punctuation. I try and use it but mostly don't think much about it. I have a bad habit of never ending my very last sentence with a period
ReplyDeleteNo'problem? at:all-honestly!
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, Mr T wishes his humans would roll out red carpet for him. Does red carpet treatment include complimentary roast chicken?
ReplyDeleteMy sentences are way too long so I stick in a few commas. I don't think it matters, people get your drift.
ReplyDeleteI think that I was taught punctuation very well at school, apart from the use of the colon and semi-colon. I often use a small row of dots when writing, and I think it is those occasions when a colon should be used, but I only discovered this a few years ago! I know I use the exclamation mark too frequently !!
ReplyDeleteI haven't noticed any punctuation errors nor have I ever had any problem understanding when you write. I think some of the time it is like we are speaking and not writing to our blogfriends so it is easy to forget some punctuation. Anyhow blogging is fun and who is going to worry about the occasional pronunciation error... not me! As my Aunty May used to say "ee be avin fun baint ee my maid" and that is that! keep well Amanda
ReplyDeleteI'm totally with you, I'm afraid my style is hit and miss too.
ReplyDeleteWe are who we are, and our blogs are a reflection of that. I am useless with spelling and punctuation, but getting better as I write more.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same Briony. My spelling is ok but my punctuation and grammar leave a lot to be desired. I love reading your posts and never struggle to understand them at all.
