DEVASTATED, RUPERT GONE

We are completely devastated here.

Rupert was not his usual self on Friday last week and we took him to the vets thinking that it was another stuck fur ball.

After a follow up on Saturday and another on Sunday blood tests were taken and it was found that his Kidneys, Pancreas and Liver were giving up.

All this came as a complete surprise as I was preparing to pay for another op to put him right and didn't contemplate that he may have been ill with anything else.

I didn't hesitate to in my decision to let him go to sleep but we are upset beyond measure.

I have buried him in my little garden and know that he is no longer in pain.

    1. Yes, I always said that I would not thrust pills down any of their throats, its not fair. he was really ill and the vet said that cats hide it so well that you don't know until they are almost on their way out.

    1. Yes, I have the other 4 but wonder now if they are ok, if Rupert had not had the blood test who knows how long he would have suffered, Mummy Polly is 15 and her kittens are 14 so all getting old.

  14. Really sorry to read your sad news. It chokes us up to contemplate the end of a loved pet's life and for it to be so sudden is horrific. On the other hand you and Rupert were spared a pain filled slow decline. We hope the others are all hale.

  18. Ooooooh Briony, I am so so sorry! I know how important Rupert was to you both and how much he was a full-fledged member of your family. Ya know, I'm into cat rescue... and I can't tell you how many countless cats there are out there, without anyone to love them or show them compassion. I hope you can gain some comfort in knowing that the highest honor you can give an animal is to show them love and compassion...and Rupert had both in over abundance! He knew he was loved and many times even humans die without having known that in their lifetimes. You done good, kiddo.... you done good! Hang in there! ~Andrea xoxo

  20. Again, so sorry Briony. We've all been there and know how hard it can be. Our last 2 cats passed away during the pandemic (15 and 14 years), and truthfully, I don't think I can bear going through that again.

  21. I am so sorry for your loss, sometime I think there is nothing which hurts more than having to say goodbye to our four-paws.
These funny little creatures embed their paw-prints into our hearts, and then break them in two.
You have my huge respect for being courageous and not hesitating when it came to the final act of love to ensure Rupert did not suffer, even though it was absolutely the last thing you wanted to do.

  29. Dear Briony & Tom, I really feal for you - used to have a whole family of black & white cats like yours, as I lost them one by one from old age and illness (inevitable but we always hope for a miracle don't we) we decided we just couldn't continue to go through the pain each time we lost one. We now support many animal charities instead. Not the same and we still miss the cats. Sympathy and love, Elaine x hug

  31. Only just read this and am very sad for you all. Actually I was desperately looking at your older posts about your lovely Rupert 2 weeks ago because my cat was/has been similarly ill. I am still not reassured that he is better and am just trying to make the most of our moments together, whatever the outcome may ultimately be. The feeling of loss and sadness is overwhelming as these precious little creatures leave us as I know from experience with my own house cats, past and present, and all those that I see at the cat home every day. Love them all. xx

  32. It is still upsetting us both so much. Tears keep coming and I would give anything to see him walk through the cat flap. I have had cats for 66 years but he was just so special in so many ways. Xx

  33. Literally just crying reading this and all the other comments from people who understand how this feels. These precious animals... What a gift they are to us, that we borrow from Time.
What I have learnt (and had to learn for my own sanity, if that is the right term) is that animals - especially cats perhaps - live for the moment and I think they teach us that too - we must savour these moments. Look at how cats stretch out in the sun, enjoy cuddles and all kinds of treats. We have to appreciate them when we are so blessed with their presence and then keep them treasured in our hearts and memories when they move on, and remember them with happiness and humour for all their quirky behaviour and foibles that would be frankly intolerable in the average human being!!! No cat can be 'replaced' but our hearts can find ample room for each and every one that comes our way, but nothing can make these moments of loss, or loss pending any better. Wishing every cat parent (or any animal for that matter) the best. XXX

  35.  Hello Blog Admin and anyone reading this , I was diagnosed of herpes and Hiv at the age of 24, and it runs my life until I came to know of Dr Itua herbal center- thankfully after drinking Dr itua herbal medicines for two weeks I'm completely cured which really helped me now I've had no limit how much I do massively. I had two jobs, one full time and one part time, have my horse to care for and would also help friends with their horses. Have since had to accept that I only have one job (to take care of my health) and still care for my horse with help... Dr Itua also cures all sorts of chronic illness and diseases like Herpes,Hiv/Aids,Cancer,Kidney Disease,Liver Diseases,Hepatitis,Lupus,HPV,Diabetes,COPD, And other health conditions anyone may have in their body. Dr Itua uses his herbal medicineTo cure those diseases.
